Yep, three of them. I think that they’re all Western Diamondback rattlesnakes. I saw the first one at dusk and the next two when it was dark. I used both my headlamp and flashlight to look for them as I made my way back – much more slowly than normal. I was on a grassy jeep road, but none of them were in the grass. I think they chose relatively open spots to stay warm as the sun set.

It always amazes me to hear someone say “I’ve lived here for “x” number of years and never seen a snake! Three on one hike is impressive. Glad you actually saw all of them though!

Awesome rattler photos, Kevin. I ordered snake gaiters today after seeing the pair Linda recently bought. Now we need to get in the habit of wearing them.

I, too, have ordered a pair of snake gaiters. It’s my understanding that they’re rather hot, so it may be challenging to get in the habit of wearing them.

Great idea to get those gaiters. Get the ones that tie around the waist.

Great idea to get those gaiters Kevin. But see if you can find gaiters that tie at the waist.

Wow, three in one evening! I know you like to hike in the evening in the summer but I would not do that without the gaiters. I purchased mine mainly to use during non-native grass work projects when we are off trail quite a bit but did think they might be good on some of your hikes too! I sort of feel like Ben!
Great photos this week!!! Stay safe!!!
