Was he posing like this when you came upon him or did he get this attitude once you started shooting your camera?
Glad you spotted him/her…….look how well this one blends into the ground.
He had this attitude from me nearly stepping on him. He started to calm down as I was taking pictures. The ones that I took early on were more dramatic than the later ones when he (or she) started to relax a bit.
He who speaks with forked tongue is not happy. Several rattles missing to help camouflage his presence. I’ve never noticed how rattlers lift the back third of their body to lengthen their strike. Great shot!

I didn’t see him (or her?) until I was about a foot away. I backed away quickly once I noticed it.
