Linda and I hiked ten miles on Friday…
One nice thing about starting early is seeing the sun rise.
We started off on the Tortoise Trail. When we got to this point on the Pemberton, I remembered that the Shallmo Wash Trail had been rerouted and is now out of the wash. We decided to check out the new trail.
These are views from the Shallmo Wash Trail.
I think we were on a the Long Loop when I got this shot of the bird on the saguaro.
We hiked a long way in Stoneman Wash. Shortly after crossing the Pemberton, we came upon the car.

Sandwash Groundsel.
Teddy Bear Cholla.

I love these early AM shots, as well. Looks like a hike I would have enjoyed (no boulder-hopping 🙂 ). Have u gone on the newest trail–(Rand mentioned it, but I forget what it’s called–I think begins way before the horse-staging area, meets near it and then continues along the main road–well, silly description attempt) 🙂

Thanks, Sue.
Yeah, we hiked the Shallmo Wash Trail. It used to be entirely in the wash. Now, it crosses some minor feeder washes at a few points, but for the most part, it’s entirely out of the wash. It’s a nice trail.

Hello Kevin: Lynn back here in Michigan. I miss the desert. On the next Friday hike could you get some photo shots of the saguaro cactus blooms. I see you have one in the last Friday hike. Thanks, Lynn

I’ll try. Saguaro blooms aren’t always at a convenient height for close-ups. (I’d need a tall ladder or a crane.)
