Today’s hike started at the Trailhead Staging Area. Fifteen of us, counting Bob’s dog, Sarge, hiked the Scenic Trail. When we got back, Bob, Sarge, Linda, Janet, and I continued our hike out in the direction of the old ranch homestead.
A view from the Scenic Trail – we saw a lot of brittlebush flowers while hiking the Scenic Trail today.
Robin hikes ahead of me up the short hill to the top of the ridge. (It’s only about 200 feet of elevation gain.)
Continuing on up the hill…
Looking to the northeast as we ascend the hill:
Looking back down the hill after I reached the “top”. (It’s not really the top, but it feels like it.)
Group photo by the bench:
This is my favorite photo of the bunch. We were midway along the ridgeline when I took this photo.

Amazing brittlebush growth this year and you captured it–like someone took a paintbrush and splashed yellow all around. Something is making my nose drip, tho’, so I definitely enjoyed your pics:) ~ S

One of the things I’ve noticed during recent hikes is that the hillsides often look a lot more yellow when viewed through my sunglasses, especially when using the amber tinted lenses. I’ve considered purchasing a tinted filter for my camera lens to achieve the same effect – and I may do this at some point – but it seems to me that this can also be done by making adjustments to the color temperature when processing the RAW image. I’ve found that increasing the color temperature (which increases red and decreases blue) makes the yellow stand out more. But, if you’re not careful, this can make the skies purple and introduce color casts elsewhere in the image. I spend a lot of time – probably far too long – trying to assess whether the resulting color combinations look plausible.
Anyway, thanks for your comment!
