Linda and I hiked a 10.4 mile loop starting from Tom’s Thumb Trailhead. We hiked Marcus Landslide, Boulder, Pemberton, Coachwhip, Windmill, East End, and Tom’s Thumb.
Great Hike and photos too! Neat you caught that small bird on the rock in the mushroom rock picture. And the earless lizard and rattler picture are really good too! Could have skipped my picture……..I was really dragging at that point! lOL
Ni Nora – We heard it first. We were in a wash and, due to the enclosed space, it took us a few moments to spot it. One of the other fascinating things about it was that it managed to slither sideways all while keeping it’s head erect and cocked ready for a strike while also maintaining its rattling. We hustled through a gap in the vegetation that it was also angling towards. We could easily have retreated, but the banks of the wash were just high enough that we couldn’t have easily gone around.

The Fountain Hills paper said September is snake bite season. I hope you saw that one before it saw you! It sure is an awe inspiring creature.
